  • The Clean Green Pakistan launch during Khan’s term envisioned a people-led movement aiming to bring a behavioral change in the public in order to achieve a sustainable and safe environment for Pakistan.
  • In 2015, Imran Khan launched The Billion Tree Tsunami initiative, which aimed to turn the tide on land degradation and loss in the mountainous, formerly forested KPK province. The campaign simultaneously helped KPK province fulfil its 348,400 hectares commitment to the Bonn Challenge – a global effort to bring 150 million hectares of deforested and degraded land into restoration by 2020 and 350 million hectares by 2030. This marked the first Bonn Challenge pledge to reach its restoration goal.

  • During Khan’s term, Pakistan emerged as one of the countries to achieve the United Nations SDG-13 (Sustainable Development Goal) on Climate Action. This is the first time Pakistan has achieved any SDG goal. Pakistan achieved this UN climate action goal 10 years ahead of the deadline.
  • Speaking as the Prime Minister at the Middle East Green Initiative in 2021, Khan emphasized the importance of not denying climate change whilst pledging to obtain 60% of Pakistan’s energy from renewable energy sources by 2030.
