Last night, the government reportedly took Imran Khan to a government hospital instead of Shifa International Hospital, despite the Supreme Court’s order that he be taken to Shifa for a comprehensive medical examination.

According to his sister, Dr. Uzma, who was present during the hospital visit, only Imran Khan’s eyes were examined. She said this fell far short of the complete medical assessment that had been ordered by the Supreme Court.

During his brief meeting with Dr. Uzma, Imran Khan repeatedly told her that he was being subjected to inhumane conditions and torture in jail. He said that those responsible for treating him this way were behaving without humanity.

Following the limited examination at the government hospital, Imran Khan was taken back to jail rather than being transferred to Shifa International Hospital as directed by the court.

Imran Khan also reportedly compared his treatment in prison to the ordeal of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, saying that he was being subjected to similar treatment that ultimately preceded Morsi’s death.

He had been looking forward to receiving proper medical care at Shifa after being told that he would be taken there. Instead, he was reportedly denied that visit, raising serious concerns about compliance with the Supreme Court’s order and his basic right to appropriate medical treatment.
