Missing Legal Documents Spark Outrage as Imran Khan’s Access to Justice at Risk

A senior member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legal team has raised serious concerns over the handling of key legal documents related to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, warning that the situation is affecting the legal process.

In a press statement, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, Advocate High Court and member of PTI’s core legal committee, said that documents including a Power of Attorney sent for Imran Khan’s signatures have reportedly gone missing inside Adiala Jail.

According to Chaudhry, the documents were first dispatched on April 7 and received by jail authorities on April 9. However, when he visited the jail on April 13 to collect the signed papers, he was informed after hours of waiting that the documents “could not be found” in the record.

He termed the disappearance of such sensitive legal material as serious administrative negligence and said it amounts to obstruction of the legal process. He warned that the delay is directly impacting Imran Khan’s fundamental right to access justice and a fair trial.

The statement also highlighted urgency, noting that the legal deadline for filing an appeal in the Supreme Court is approaching, and continued delays could limit the chances of effective legal remedy.

Chaudhry said the documents have now been re-submitted with a demand that they be immediately presented to Imran Khan for signatures and returned within 24 hours.

Copies of the communication have been sent to senior judicial and administrative authorities, including the Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court registrars, as well as prison and police officials, to ensure the matter is addressed promptly.
