Amnesty International Condemns Crackdown on PTI Supporters Outside Adiala Jail

Amnesty International has raised serious concerns over the reported crackdown on supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) outside Adiala Jail, calling it a violation of the right to peaceful protest.

According to Amnesty International South Asia, several individuals, including the sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khanum were detained while gathering for court-mandated weekly family visits. These visits have reportedly been denied since December 2, 2025.

The organization stated that instead of facilitating lawful visitation, authorities allegedly resorted to arbitrary detentions, tear gas, and baton charges. It further reported that Imran Khan’s sisters and other women protesters were forcibly confined for hours inside a closed shop near the jail, while dozens of others remained detained in the open for nearly five hours during heavy rain.

Amnesty International described the incident as part of a broader pattern of targeting PTI supporters and the family of Imran Khan by criminalizing peaceful protest and using Section 144 as a tool to suppress dissent.

The rights group has called on Pakistani authorities to immediately end the crackdown, respect the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and ensure uninterrupted access to court-mandated family visits for Imran Khan.
