Serious concerns have been raised regarding the medical treatment of Imran Khan after his long-time personal physician, Dr. Asim Yusuf, disclosed that the eye condition reportedly affecting him cannot be treated at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Dr. Asim Yusuf, who has served as Khan’s doctor for over 30 years, stated that the specific treatment being cited is not available at PIMS, prompting questions about how effective medical care could be provided under the current arrangements. He further emphasized that accurately diagnosing the causes of the reported eye condition requires several essential medical tests, which, according to him, have not been conducted.
“Without these tests, determining the underlying cause is not possible, and God forbid, the condition could turn out to be dangerous,” Dr. Yusuf warned.
The situation has sparked political controversy, with comparisons being drawn to the treatment afforded to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his incarceration. Nawaz Sharif’s personal physician remained with him around the clock, from his time in jail to his medical treatment in London, without obstruction from the then Imran Khan-led Government.
The current administration, has crossed a new line by denying Imran Khan access to his personal doctors. The move is an act of political pettiness that could have serious implications for Imran Khan’s health and well-being.
