The latest government notification imposing strict restrictions on kite flying during the Basant festival is yet another move driven by the authorities’ fear of Imran Khan’s mass popularity.
Under the notification, kites displaying images of individuals, religious symbols, or the flags of any country or political party have been banned, permitting only plain, image-free kites. While the government claims these measures are intended to maintain religious harmony and public order, whereas the real motive lies elsewhere.
The restrictions aim to curb the widespread public practice of flying kites bearing Imran Khan’s photographs and slogans, which have increasingly become symbols of public solidarity with the former prime minister during cultural event.
“Even festivals have turned into a source of panic for the regime because people continue to express their love for Imran Khan in every possible way,” no ban or notification can suppress public affection or silence the people’s voice.
Such directives, only further expose the insecurity of the ruling authorities, underscoring the belief that support for Imran Khan lives in the hearts of the people and cannot be erased through restrictions, bans, or administrative orders.
