Two petitions concerning Imran Khan’s medical treatment were filed before the Supreme Court. One was filed by his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, while the second was intended to be filed directly on Imran Khan’s behalf.

At the time, jail authorities were not providing a signed power of attorney from Imran Khan. Therefore, Dr. Uzma Khan’s petition was filed within the required legal timeframe. After a lengthy legal battle, a power of attorney signed by Imran Khan was eventually provided to me and attached to the medical petition filed on his behalf. On 18 August, the Supreme Court issued a joint order concerning the medical issues raised in both petitions.

Dr. Uzma Khan has now filed a contempt of court petition. A separate contempt petition also needs to be filed on Imran Khan’s behalf.

For this, Imran Khan’s signatures are required on the necessary power of attorney and petition. However, the jail authorities have yet to facilitate this process.

On 20 August, I went to Adiala Jail with three powers of attorney. My name was registered at Gate No. 5, but the documents were never presented to Imran Khan for his signature. I have also submitted an affidavit regarding this matter before the Supreme Court.

I have now sent three powers of attorney, through courier, to the Adiala Jail authorities and have formally written to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, requesting that the documents be presented to Imran Khan so that his signatures and thumb impressions can be obtained, and that the signed powers of attorney be returned immediately.

This is necessary so that a contempt of court petition can be filed before the Supreme Court on Imran Khan’s behalf.

Preventing Imran Khan from signing his power of attorney is obstructing his legal rights and his right of access to justice.

If the signed powers of attorney are not returned within 24 hours, this matter will be brought before the relevant authorities and the court.
