Islamabad (July 18) Uzma Khan, the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has expressed grave concern over reports emerging from Adiala Jail regarding her brother’s health and the conditions of his detention.
According to a statement issued by Uzma Khan, information reaching the family from inside the prison indicates that Imran Khan’s health has deteriorated significantly. Individuals who have recently met him reportedly observed that he is suffering from severe nausea and stomach-related illness.
Denial of Access to Personal Doctors
Uzma Khan said that despite the seriousness of his reported condition, Imran Khan is not being allowed to undergo examination or treatment by his personal physicians.
She questioned how confidence could be placed in official or externally appointed medical boards while access to independent doctors continues to be denied, particularly when concerns have been raised about his health and well-being.
Concerns Over Solitary Confinement
The statement also highlighted Imran Khan’s continued confinement in isolation and restrictions on family meetings.
According to Uzma Khan, prolonged solitary confinement combined with limited access to family members and trusted medical professionals has intensified concerns surrounding his welfare.
Questions About Food Safety
Uzma Khan further stated that when a prisoner is held in isolation and regular family visits are prevented, concerns naturally arise regarding the safety and integrity of the food and drink being provided.
She argued that these concerns are heightened by what she described as a history of mistrust toward powerful state institutions, making independent oversight and transparency essential.
Call for Independent Medical Access
The family has called for Imran Khan to be granted immediate access to his personal doctors and for transparent, independent medical examinations to ensure that his health is properly assessed and protected.
Uzma Khan urged the authorities to allow regular family visits and independent medical oversight, emphasizing that transparency is the only way to address growing public concern regarding Imran Khan’s health and treatment in custody.
