Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry faces Continued Obstruction in Supreme Court Appeal Process in Al-Qadir Trust Case

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s counsel, Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, has told that Adiala Jail authorities continue to obstruct the completion of legal formalities required to file appeals before the Supreme Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

According to Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, he visited Adiala Jail again today solely to obtain the signatures of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi on the vakalatnamas and appeal documents necessary for filing appeals and bail petitions before the Supreme Court. However, despite repeated efforts and existing court directions, the required signatures were once again not facilitated.

He stated that following the Islamabad High Court’s written order dated 20 May, he personally visited Adiala Jail on 21 May to complete the process, but the documents were not presented for signatures. Subsequently, the vakalatnamas and appeal papers were sent through courier and were officially received by jail authorities on 25 May 2026. He was then advised to return after the Eid holidays.

Acting on that assurance, Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry revisited the jail on 1 June, yet the documents remained unsigned. He has now confirmed that even during his latest visit, the signatures of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were still not obtained.

According to him, the matter has also been brought to the attention of the Inspector General of Prisons, Punjab, through a written complaint. He maintained that the repeated failure to facilitate signatures on the legal documents is not merely an administrative lapse but reflects a continuing pattern that is hindering the exercise of legal and constitutional rights.

“The vakalatnamas have been with the jail authorities since 25 May. Preventing or delaying the completion of these documents directly affects the ability of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to approach the Supreme Court within the prescribed legal timeframe,” Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry said.

He argued that obtaining signatures on the vakalatnamas is a fundamental legal requirement for pursuing appeals and bail applications before the Supreme Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Any obstruction in this process, he said, raises serious concerns regarding access to justice, the right to legal representation, and the constitutional guarantee of a fair trial.

Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry called for the immediate implementation of court orders and urged the authorities to ensure that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are provided a full opportunity to exercise their legal rights so that the Supreme Court proceedings in the Al-Qadir Trust case may be decided purely on merit.
