Imran Khan’s Health and Prison Conditions Raised in Italian Parliament

Concerns over the health and prison conditions of former Prime Minister Imran Khan have reached the Italian Chamber of Deputies, where the issue was formally raised through a parliamentary question.

Italian Member of Parliament Aboubakar Soumahoro submitted Written Question No. 4-07181 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, urging the government to address concerns related to Imran Khan’s health and detention conditions.

The parliamentary question highlights several issues, including the reported deterioration of Imran Khan’s eyesight, alleged harsh prison conditions over the past two and a half years, and restrictions on access to his personal doctors. It also raises concerns about limitations on family visits, with claims that even his children have faced difficulties obtaining visas to see him.

The Italian government has been asked to clarify what diplomatic steps, if any, it plans to take to ensure that Imran Khan receives appropriate medical care and that his fundamental rights are respected.

The matter was brought forward as part of an advocacy effort by the PTI Human Rights Monitoring Committee Europe, which has been raising international awareness about the situation.

Observers note that the discussion of the issue in the Italian Parliament reflects growing international attention to the health and detention conditions of the former Pakistani prime minister.
