Imran Khan Faces Urgent Eye Health Crisis Amid Prolonged Detention EuroPak Director for France, Saima Babri

EuroPak Director for France, Saima Babri, has urged Human Rights Watch and the European Commission to take immediate notice of what she described as a worsening medical emergency involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Babri stated that after more than 900 days in detention, the matter is “no longer just a legal issue, but a medical emergency.” She warned that Khan is facing severe vision deterioration due to inadequate medical care while in custody.

According to concerns raised by advocates, Khan is reportedly suffering from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition that can lead to significant and potentially permanent vision loss if not treated promptly. Medical experts note that CRVO requires urgent specialist evaluation and sustained treatment to prevent irreversible damage.

Babri emphasized that “every day matters,” calling on international human rights bodies and European institutions to press for immediate access to proper medical care. She stressed that health and human dignity are fundamental rights and cannot be treated as optional.

The appeal adds to growing international concern regarding Khan’s medical condition and calls for urgent humanitarian intervention.
