Senior journalist Matiullah Jan has described former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s X (formerly Twitter) account as “the Great Wall of China for the defense of democracy in Pakistan.”
Imran Khan`s X account is one of the last remaining platforms where the voice for democracy continues to echo. Most dissenting voices in the country are being systematically silenced, Army Chief General Asim Munir and “his puppets” are suppressing every voice raised in support of democracy and constitutional rule. In this environment, Imran Khan’s social media presence has emerged as a crucial channel for public expression and resistance.
Despite being held in detention for more than 900 days under harsh and inhumane conditions, Imran Khan continues to advocate for the restoration of democracy and the rule of law.
The statement comes amid growing concerns by journalists, human rights activists, and opposition figures over shrinking civic space, restrictions on media freedom, and the curtailment of political dissent in Pakistan. Imran Khan’s digital voice represents not just an individual leader, but a broader struggle for democratic rights in the country.
