PTI Continues Sit-in at Adiala Jail Demanding Meeting with Imran Khan

by Tahir Naseer – Dawn News

Supporters and family members of Imran Khan, including his sisters Aleema, Uzma, and Noreen, are protesting outside Adiala Jail near Rawalpindi, demanding a court-mandated meeting with the former prime minister. Despite a court order from Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued on March 24, allowing meetings twice a week, authorities have repeatedly denied access.

On Tuesday, PTI leaders and supporters staged a sit-in at Factory Naka, near the jail, with Aleema Khan asserting they will continue protesting wherever they are stopped. She criticized the government and judiciary, claiming Imran is being subjected to mental torture, including solitary confinement, and accused authorities of violating legal and constitutional rights.

The protest comes after efforts to meet Imran Khan have been thwarted multiple times, with authorities dispersing previous gatherings with water cannons. Aleema and other supporters also highlighted concerns over Imran’s health, his treatment in prison, and reported violations of his rights.

PTI leaders, including Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and spokesperson Naeem Haider Panjhuta, condemned the treatment of Imran, emphasizing the peaceful nature of their protests and calling for nationwide support. They warned of potential mass protests if justice is not served.

International voices, including a UN special rapporteur, have expressed concern over Imran’s detention conditions, describing them as inhumane and degrading, urging Pakistani authorities to adhere to international standards.

Imran Khan, serving a sentence since August 2023 in a corruption case, faces additional trials under anti-terror laws related to protests. His health and well-being remain a priority for supporters, with recent meetings indicating he is in good health but under mental stress due to his detention conditions.

The protest continues as PTI demands justice, transparency, and the release of their leader.
