Human Rights Council of Pakistan Condemns Unlawful Detention and Denial of Family Access to Imran Khan

In a recent statement issued by the Human Rights Council of Pakistan (HRC Pakistan), serious concerns have been raised over the treatment of Imran Khan.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s founder chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has not been allowed to meet with his family members for the past twenty-five days. Despite clear directives from the High Court to permit such meetings, no political leader or family member has been granted access. These restrictions, in spite of judicial orders, constitute an open violation of the Constitution, human rights, and fundamental civil liberties.

The HRC Pakistan notes with concern that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Suhail Afridi is sitting on a sit-in outside Adiala Jail along with Imran Khan’s sisters, yet permission for a meeting remains unjustifiably withheld. Such conduct is not only contrary to democratic principles but also raises serious questions about the integrity of the country’s legal system.

The Human Rights Council of Pakistan demands that:-

Judicial orders be immediately enforced.

Family members and legal representatives be granted permission to meet.

All political pressure, obstacles to access, and unnecessary restrictions be terminated without delay.

HRC Pakistan emphasizes that depriving any citizen of their fundamental rights, regardless of political affiliation, is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately.
